  2. His portraits and landscapes, usually in
  3. watercolour or tempera, are naturalistic,
  4. minutely detailed, and often have a strong
  5. sense of the isolation of the countryside:
  6. for example, Christina's World 1948 (Museum
  7. of Modern Art, New York). Born in Chadds
  8. Ford, Pennsylvania, the son of
  9. artist-illustrator N C Wyeth, he is among the
  10. most popular of contemporary US artists. His
  11. paintings depict people of the land,
  12. especially Wyeth's own surroundings in Chadds
  13. Ford and Maine, where his summer home is
  14. located. His son James Browning Wyeth (1946-)
  15. also is an artist.
